If two workers are driving to a worksite that is within 1/2 hr. from their shop do they have to have first aid training ?

Whenever there is more than one worker performing a function, first aid certification is a requirement.

Your work is classified as "high hazard" under Schedule 2, Table 2.

Schedule 2 , Table 7 sets the requirements for first aid for a close, distant and isolated work site. In your first example 1/2 hour away you would probably be classed as close. However, in the second example of 2 hours you could be considered a distant or isolated work site.

Under definitions in the OH&S Act - work site includes any vehicle or mobile equipment used by a worker in an occupation. Therefore the vehicle is classed as a work site. Under Schedule 2, Table 7 a first aid kit would also be required for the vehicle.

Therefore in both circumstances both of your workers would require first aid certification. I would suggest a Standard First Aid Certification
