| This
is a half-day (4) hour training course.
Respiratory
hazards exist in every workplace, from bacteria to viruses, aerosols
to odours, and gases to dusts. Exposure to respiratory hazards
can cause chronic and acute lung diseases, allergic reactions, irritations,
cancer and systemic poisoning of the major organs in the body.
The
purpose of the MHSA Respiratory protective Equipment (RPE) course
is to assist employers in developing an efficient and effective
RPE program. The course provides basic information to help
companies properly protect workers from airborne hazards. The
course content is intended as an aid to company workers, managers
and supervisors in complying with provincial Health and Safety Legislation.
The
RPE course consists of both theoretical and practical exercises,
and hands-on demonstrations presented in eight sessions. The
practical exercises and demonstrations reinforce the need for RPE
and emphasize how to correctly select and use air purifying type
respirators, masks, and filters. The theoretical training
addresses the essential elements of respiratory protection including:
Anatomy; respiratory hazards; and how to select, use and maintain
respirators. There is an extensive amount of reference material
in the student manual that covers provincial legislation and provides
a general guideline of how to develop an in-house RPE program.
If
your company is using any form of RPE this course
is essential to you and to the health and safety of your employees.
