Pre-Requisite: None

PPE Required: Safety boots, hard hat, and gloves

Course Description

This 1-day interactive course is for workers that will be rigging symmetrical loads. The course covers the fundamentals of rigging symmetrical loads with synthetic, chain and wire rope slings, as well as rigging hardware. Discussions will include basic hitches using one and two slings and 2 leg bridles as well as sling angle calculations. Participant learning is reinforced by actually rigging up assorted loads.


  • Occupational Health & Safety and Manufacturer's requirements

  • Calculating load weight

  • Understanding centre of gravity

  • Selecting suitable lifting points 

  • Angles & sling loading

  • Inspection and rigging practices for synthetic, wire rope and chain slings; shackles, eyebolts, hoist rings and hooks

  • Hazard identification, pinch points and danger zone

  • Hand signals and tag lines

After completing this course participants will understand:

  • the principles and practices for rigging symmetrical loads

  • the importance of applying these principles and practices at their worksite

  • the need for direct supervision from a competent rigger for any rigging job that they don't have enough experience to carry out

 Note: Participants must successfully complete a written confirmation with a 80% passing mark
