Pre-Requisite: MHSA Overhead Crane Operator – Standard course within the previous 12 months

PPE Required: Safety boots, hard hat, and gloves

Course Description

This 1-day interactive course is for workers that have completed the MHSA Overhead Crane Operator- Standard course within the previous 12 months, and make lifts that are non-symmetrical, turn a load over or make a dual crane lift. This course covers how to safely use Overhead Cranes and Rigging to make these types of lifts. Participants will receive classroom and practical instruction.

Topics include:

  • Calculating load weight of non-symmetrical loads

  • Finding centre of gravity of non-symmetrical loads

  • Share of load and lifting point loading

  • Angles & sling loading of non-symmetrical loads

  • Spreader Bars & Lifting Beams

  • Inspection and rigging practices for lever hoists

  • Load Stability and control

  • Turning a load over

  • Dual hoist and dual crane lifts

After completing this course participants will understand:

  • the principles and practices for rigging and lifting a non-symmetrical load

  • the principles and practices for turning a load over, and making dual crane lifts

  • the importance of applying these principles and practices at their worksite

  • the need for direct supervision from a competent crane operator for any lifts that they don't have enough experience for

**Job specific familiarization training and determination of competency are the sole responsibility of the Employer.

Note: Participants must successfully complete a written and practical confirmation with an 80% passing mark
