Time: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

Pre-Requisite:

1. MHSA Basic Rigging course within the previous 12 months

2. 10 supervised hours operating an overhead crane

PPE Required: Safety boots, hard hat, and gloves


Course Description

This 1-day interactive course is for workers that have completed the MHSA Basic Rigging course within the previous 12 months, and operate an overhead crane for lifting symmetrical loads. The course covers how to safely use Overhead Cranes to lift, move and place these types of loads. Participants will receive classroom and practical instruction.

Topics include:

  • Pre-operational inspection and safe operating practices for Overhead Hoists & Jib Cranes

  • Pre-operational inspection and safe operating practices for Overhead Cranes

  • Lift planning – travel route hazards, pinch points, danger zone, proper body positioning

  • Lifting and moving the load

  • Load Stability and control

  • Load positioning and placement

  • Crane shut down procedures

After completing this course participants will understand:

  • the principles and practices for lifting a symmetrical load

  • the importance of applying these principles and practices at their worksite

  • the need for direct supervision from a competent crane operator for any lifts that they don't have enough experience to carry out

**Job specific familiarization training and determination of competency are the sole responsibility of the Employer.

Note: Participants must successfully complete a written and practical confirmation with an 80% passing mark
