Course Description

This 2-day course is designed to provide knowledge of how to effectively deal with the aftermath of a critical incident such as a serious injury or fatality in the workplace. The aim is to provide participants with a better understanding of the roles that both management and staff have after a traumatic event. Through a combination of role-playing, practical exercises, and videos, participants will leave the course better prepared to intervene professionally and support your employees’ emotional needs after a critical incident.

Topics include:

  • Key terms and core concepts of CISM

  • Resources available for assistance after a critical incident

  • Common psychological symptoms and behavioural and reactions

  • Strategic planning and coping with critical incidents

  • Large and small group crisis intervention

  • Critical Incident Stress Debriefing

By the end of this course you will:

  • Understand the vital role played by management and staff after a critical incident

  • Recognize the resources available for appropriate assistance after a critical incident

  • Be better prepared to respond to a critical incident and deal with the trauma
