Course Description

This course is intended for employers, supervisors, workers, engineers, and maintenance personnel who are responsible for the safety of workers exposed to machinery hazards. It provides an overview of the CSA Z432:23 Safeguarding of Machinery standard, forth edition (2023), with a focus on the significant changes including a restructured framework aligned with the hierarchy of controls, continued harmonization with ISO standards and ANSI B11.19, and important revisions to Clause 6.

We will go over how the standard applies in real workplace settings and how effective safeguarding is achieved through risk assessment and design practices.

The course will provide learners with:

  • Awareness of the hazards and risks associated with machines and tools

  • Knowledge to perform task-based risk assessments

  • Understanding of controls available to protect against machinery risks and important design requirements and considerations

  • Awareness of the associated legislation and standards

  • Opportunity to participate in risk assessment and safeguarding design exercises

Course Instructor

Kristin Petaski, P. Eng. has specialized in machine safety consulting for the past 17 years. With a background in engineering, manufacturing, and safety, she brings real-life experience to the machine safeguarding process. As a committee member of CSA Z432, Kirstin provides an in-depth, knowledgeable, and practical training experience.

Note

A copy of CSA Z432-23 will not be provided at the training. It is highly recommended to obtain and bring your own copy of the new edition of the standard in order to follow along, participate in excerises and get the most out of the training experience.
